Installation Guidelines:

These handlebars are a great replacement part or upgrade to your BMW. The powder coating is of the highest quality available, but to get that protection the manufacturer must apply a thick coating. That thickness may interfere with the tight 22mm tolerances BMW uses on its hand controls. To install these follow these steps:

Remove the coating from the ends of the handlebars. Generally the original BMW controls need approximately 7.25”-7.5” from the very end of the handlebar to the innermost end of the hand control. Measure your bike for accuracy and be sure not to push the right hand throttle control and inner grip tube in so far as to make contact with the inside of the right rubber grip against the handlebar end- This may cause a drag on the throttle action.
Do NOT try to force the hand controls on over the thick protective coatings
Do NOT remove material from the inside of your controls
Simply measure off the distance (approximately 7.25”) and mark with a protective tape and then remove the thick coating until the handlebar control slides easily in to the mark. BMW handlebars and controls are 22mm with very tight tolerances. The coating can be up to .4 mm which will stop the controls from sliding.
Additionally, precision tubing cutters often “flare” the end of the tubing when the they are cut. This flare will also not allow the controls to slide over the ends. The ends may need to be filed down around the entire end as is pointed to in the photo. You can see the large burr that may be present.
A file will be required to remove the metal end flaring and may be used to remove the coating also. Any coarse sandpaper (approximately 150 grit) will remove the black coating.
Mounting the handlebar in the bike clamps is the easiest way to work on the bars while checking clearance fitment.

When you are finished, you will have a stylish, high-quality handlebar with great fitment for many miles of use.
