The seal must be preformed to the flywheel (1970-1980) or to the flywheel guide ring (1981-1995).

The seal is not pre-shaped and in some cases can be pushed on. If the shaft is not rounded or chamfered you must pre-shape the seal prior to installation - usually attained by pushing the seal into the drift to install it.

Note that the new seal is only used on the R100GS (swing arm with no oil). If this seal is used on models with swing arm (R80 - R100RT), the oil will transfer from the swing arm into the gearbox. The vent passage in the gearbox cover must be blocked on all R100GS models.

The seal is pre-shaped when fitted on the installation arbor. Use caution and ensure that the spiral on the sealing lip is not damaged. The new seal will seat in rapidly if installed dry.
